Sending and Personalizing a Message
The Quick Message (QM) forms the foundation of all interaction within the iSpQ community. These photo instant messages allow you to snap a photo from your webcam and send it in real-time to other community members. You can include a text message, an audio recording of your voice, and personalized extras such as Picture Overlays. You can even send a QM to a member that is offline: iSpQ will deliver the message the next time they sign on.

Sending a Quick Message
When you send a QM, you should be as sincere and friendly as possible and take advantage of the customization to make your messages creative and unique. Just a simple “hi” to another member will certainly brighten their day and almost guarantee you a smile back. You will find that QM's are a convenient and easy way to meet new people and stay in touch.

  1. Select a user (the recipient of your QM) so that their name is highlighted. Places where you can select a user include Directory, Text Chat, Pal List, Inbox, and Video Chat.
  2. Open a new Quick Message window after selecting a user by doing one of the following:

    1. Double-click the user in one of the specified places from Step 1.
    2. Click the Message button in a user's profile.
    3. Click Message in the main toolbar.
    4. Right-click the user and select Send Quick Message from the pop-up menu.
    5. Press Ctrl+Q on your keyboard.
    6. Click Reply when viewing a message in the Messages window.
  3. If your webcam is on and is focused correctly, you should see a live photo of yourself when the Quick Message window appears.

  4. Click one of the buttons next to Take Picture to retake your photo.
  5. Enter a text message. To record an audio message, click Record (red dot).
  6. When you are satisfied with the content of the message, click Send. To exit without sending the message, click Cancel.

Personalizing Quick Messages
Personalizing the look of your messages allows you to communicate your mood, personality, and interests whenever you send a QM. Make your Quick Messages a reflection of you by customizing the font/color, by adding a Text Overlay, and by choosing a Picture Overlay. iSpQ VideoChat includes almost two hundred small pictures that you can overlay on an outgoing photo. These pictures – ranging from smiley faces to national flags – offer a unique way to spice up your QM's.

An example of using these great features would be to capture the fun and excitement of your favorite sports team in your QM; set the Font Color and Background Color to your favorite team's colors (such as maroon and orange), import a Picture Overlay of the team mascot, and set your Text Overlay to “GO HOKIES!”. As you can see, this type of personalization really adds another dimension to your Quick Messages!

  1. Open a Quick Message to someone using the methods described above.

    1. Click the Font button to select your default font settings (font name, size, etc).
    2. Choose your message font and background color from the two buttons on the right of the four-button group.
    3. To edit the Text or Picture overlay, click the left-most button in the four button group. This opens the Options window.

  2. Launch the Options window by selecting Edit > Options from the main menu.
    1. Click Overlays in the left-hand box.
    2. Select Send overlays with my outgoing Quick Messages to send a picture overlay with all of your QM's.
    3. You can choose your Picture Overlay from the drop-down menu or you can import a picture from your computer.

      1. Click Import and select an image that is less than 100 x 100 pixels and in JPEG (.jpg) format.
      2. Click Open once you have chosen your image.
    4. Choose the Placement of your picture overlay within a Quick Message.
    5. Select Use Text Overlays and enter text into the box if you wish to send a text overlay with your outgoing Quick Messages.

  3. Finish making changes to your messaging or overlays settings.
  4. Click OK to save changes and exit.
